USA Climbing sanctions US Adult Climbing Nationals

Carmel, IN March 12, 2004 -- This weekend, on March 13, 2004, the elite among competition rock climbers in the United States will gather in Miami, Florida at X-Treme Rock Climbing Gym to compete for berths on the United States Adult National Climbing Teams in difficulty and speed. Team members will be eligible to compete and represent the United States at various World Cup Events, including the 2004 North American Continental Championship which will select participants for the 2005 World Games in Germany.

USA Climbing is the national governing body for the sport of competition climbing and promotes and sanctions climbing activities for three "tracks" of climbers. The Open Track attracts climbing's elite who wish to compete at the highest levels, both in the US and abroad. It is open to anyone age 16 or older. The Youth Track is the largest series of youth climbing events in the world and culminates in an annual national championship and selection of the United States Youth Climbing Team which goes on to compete at the annual World Championships. The Youth Track is divided into gender and age categories from 11 & under to 18/19. The Recreational Track is open to anyone over 19 and offers a fun way for adults who may not be among climbing's elite to enjoy the excitement and camaraderie of competition climbing.

Spectators are welcome at the Adult Nationals in Miami. All local and national television and news media are welcome to attend event. Please contact Phil Carr for more information.
